Delivery Method and Persistence and Performance
Abstract: Since the advent of MOOC’s, there has been rising interest in this mode of instruction delivery by institutions as a way to defray costs. This movement points to an even greater need for attention to the efficacy of online delivery for learning. For this reason, this paper examines the persistence and performance of students in an introductory Business Statistics course in a traditional classroom compared to an entirely online setting, in order to provide insights into this growing possibility. It was found that persistence was lower in the online setting, but performance was better, though not statistically significantly so. These findings are contrary to prior research suggesting the need for continued research.
