Pedagogical challenges and effective practices of Online Assessment during Covid-19
Abstract: During the Covid-19 pandemic, accelerated transition to online instruction necessitated modification of assessment techniques for use in online courses to strategically reflect the pedagogy of the online course. Since most of the teaching was performed online, to achieve this shift lecturers needed good knowledge of assessment methods, online teaching skills and mastery of the appropriate techno-pedagogy to create an effective learning experience. This paper analyzes the assessment levels of examples of online activities applied by lecturers, during Covid-19 pandemic. The assessment levels are sorted according to the four classifications of the SAMR model: substitution, augmentation, modification, and redefinition. The research sample consisted of 101 lecturers in an education college, who taught online during the COVID-19 pandemic and posted 191 reflections on their assessment methods. The research also aims to address the issues, practices and solutions that arise in providing large numbers of students with effective types of online assessment.
