Abstract: This paper reports preliminary findings on design-based research interventions implemented in a high school Spanish 3 class; electronic pen pals and student-developed blogs. This paper includes qualitative findings on student perceptions of writing to a pen pal from a Spanish speaking country and their opinions of creating blogs with their classmates on topics of mutual interest. These projects were designed to test one teacher’s assumptions about how technology can be motivating in the language classroom.
