Abstract: This paper presents a joint project between a university professor of mathematics education and a middle school mathematics teacher. A thematic unit for sixth grade students was designed centering around Spanish Missions in Texas. Geogebra was used as the platform for teaching various geometry and measurement concepts. Students were found to be highly engaged with the content. Geogebra was easy for the students to learn. As a result, the students encountered geometry concepts that are not normally a part of the curriculum. Students experience real-world geometry using historical documents.
