Abstract: Abstract: While teaching with manipulatives is not a new or novel concept for the classroom, the jury is still out on many decisions. Which type, concrete or virtual is best? Does the use of manipulatives help to lower anxiety? Does the use of virtual manipulatives lead to more complex understanding of mathematics? In this study, teacher candidates were given modules with concrete and virtual manipulatives. The participants were given pre and post questionnaires concerning anxieties as well as the modules were evaluated as for accuracy.
