Emerging Local Hybrid-Homeschool Collaborative Communities

Abstract: As homeschooling continues to grow and gain acceptance in mainstream America, local collaborative communities are emerging among the homeschoolers, enabling them to have interaction and build new knowledge. Many of these communities are a hybrid or a combination of homeschools and traditional day schools. A new generation of homeschool parents have set aside the suspicions toward school authorities that their homeschool parents had, and are much more willing to work along side the schools in directing their children’s education. The World Wide Web, information and communication technologies (ITCs), and multimedia technologies have caused a revolution in how information is delivered. Parents as teachers are empowered to shop online for their educational needs. Hiring expertise in the form a tutor, or enrollment in a teacher-led course are options available in the hybrid-educational format.
