Abstract: In fall 2015, my EDUC 612 (Educational Web Design) course students and I collaboratively designed and facilitated a 4-week open online course to offer free professional development for in-service and pre-service educators Analysis of the post-course data revealed that the majority of the participants who completed the course (n=46; 88%) felt that they were able to achieve the course learning objectives as well as their professional goals for the course The participants felt that the design of the course “far surpassed” the design of other online courses and MOOCs they had taken They felt that the flexible learning experience, opportunities to expand their professional learning networks, and immediate and personalized feedback were all motivating factors that shaped their success in the course This session will focus on lessons learned and best practices in online course design based on the findings from this teaching and research project
