Google and Other Applications to Support the Dissertation Process
Abstract: Completing a dissertation can prove to be a catalyst for one’s career. One of the most common questions is, "How long will it take to complete a doctorate?" Of course, it depends on the field of study and the institution, but it is a standard question. When my "battle buddy" and I share with people that we completed our course work, dissertations, defense in just under three years, we usually get lots of questions about what tools, applications, and strategies we employed. We enrolled and completed our program in Educational Leadership and School Supervision at Fayetteville State University in North Carolina. The two of us met during the very first week of course work and remained study partners throughout the process. The program was set up in cohorts, which means that all of our classes were together which made it easy to collaborate. At the time, we both still held full-time jobs. I was working as a high school administrator and principal of a Freshman Academy. My "battle buddy" was working as an instructional reading specialist in an elementary school. As we embarked on this journey, we gathered a collection of helpful tools, applications, and strategies.
