A Special Professional development for faculty who had to teach online due to COVID19
Abstract: This article summarizes the process and the outcomes of a series of summer workshops held at CSULB (California State University, Long Beach,) to prepare faculty to convert their face-to-face courses to alternative modes of instruction, amid the closure of campuses and the need for distance learning. A total of 468 faculty participated in 5 weeks of training. The participants learned about best practices and techniques for designing and facilitating online courses and promoting student success. They also learned about technology-based practices as well as principles of transparent assessment. A large amount of quantitative and qualitative data was collected. The results are presented in four categories, student challenges, faculty’s challenges, the impact of the workshop, and implications for future professional development planning in the area of educational technology.
