Biography

Hello...my name is David, from Vancouver, Canada. I have been an ESL (English as Second Language) teacher since 1991. I have taught in Japan and Canada, and most recently at a technical college in Doha, Qatar.

During my time in Doha I became very interested in computer and online activities as a way to supplement traditional classroom work. I utilized such resources as Moodle, pbWorks Wiki, VoiceThread, and Articulate. I also worked on curriculum development for Health Sciences English, Banking English and General English. Finally, a colleague and I wrote the textbook for a course entitled Banking English for Tellers.

I have recently completed 2 courses related to the Distance Education field: 1. Certificate in Distance Education (Indiana University) 2. Moodle Starter Course (e-Consultants)

I am currently a student in the Masters of Distance Education Program with Athabasca University, Alberta, Canada

I have 2 main areas of interest in distance education: 1. instructional design 2. distance education in developing countries

My goal is to become an instructional designer for distance education courses, and hopefully to also apply these skills to the development of DE in developing countries.

If you share similar goals, or even if you'd just like to get acquainted, feel free to contact me, and perhaps we can meet up at the conference.
