Using Self-Reporting Surveys to Assess Technology Skills: Planning Curriculum and Assessment for PC and PPC Skills
Abstract: This program will present the results of the use of self-reporting inventories of PC and PPC skills for curriculum planning and for the assessment of student learning. Data from more than 250 students will be presented. Data will illustrate (1) strategies for identifying skills for both PC and PPC competence, (2) the use of the survey inventory for planning PC and PPC skill training, (3) student PC and PPC skills before and after technology skill training, (4) relationships between student reported skills and actual demonstrated skills, and (5) the possibility of a natural acquisition of technology skills in the absence of formal training. The results of student responses to inventory items have been used to plan meaningful curricula for the students and to anticipate the advancing skills of incoming students.
