Abstract: This research examines how high school students'perspective and goals shape their actions in classrooms where teachers use instructional multimedia and computers. Using participant observations, interviews and surveys, we found that multimedia and computers are tools through which students achieve their goals. Their actions in these multimedia and computer-rich classrooms were driven by their goal to be successful in school. Even in the scene where they were browsing internet for personal use, they were using the opportunity to take a break from their busy academic schedule which will help them become successful in school.
