Preparing educators for the 21st Century: Learners as Designers, Part 2
Abstract: Shaping and developing our teachers as thinkers and designers for the classrooms of the future presents today's educators with many challenges. One of these challenges is the selection and modeling of thoughtful and adaptive approaches to learning design. While it is important to realise the potential of Web 2.0 tools, it is even more important to plan their integration and effective pedagogical use. In this initiative we implemented and evaluated the use of the Learning Activity Management System (LAMS) as a tool to assist educators and their institutions rethink teaching and learning practices. Taking a design-based research approach we report on the findings and progress from three international partner institutions. The overall goal of this developmental approach to research is to solve real problems while at the same time constructing design principles than can inform future decisions (Reeves 2000).
