Keynote Conversation ID: 19272

Abstract: Learning networks now link learners, teachers and communities in ways that afford quality, individualized and collaborative learning activities anytime/anyplace. This presentation overviews the affordances of the emerging educational semantic web and the tools, techniques and pedagogies that are recreating both formal and lifelong learning. In particular the ways in which social software is used to enhance active participation in learning activities and to create as well as consume learning content are highlighted. However, we have learned that new affordances do not necessarily lead to adoption and thus the presentation looks at issues of privacy, plagiarism, new roles and responsibilities and the role of formal learning in creating safe spaces for learning.
