Abstract: Join over 200,000 educators in over 175 countries currently using Moodle. Moodle is an online course management system offering teachers a variety of tools to supplement and support their learning environments. One of the most powerful tools within Moodle is the asynchronous discussion forums. These forums hold the key to effective learning - interactivity. The discussion forums allow teachers to incorporate several key types of interactions. We will explore the role of the moderator/facilitator, demonstrate practical best practices in structuring online discussions, and share innovative ways to encourage quality participation.
