Abstract: Since its launch in 2006, Twitter continues to grow as one of the most used social-networking platforms and the largest microblogging platform. Limited to 140 characters per message (known as a Tweet), Twitter allows for concise interaction among users, no matter the geographical location or social status. Businesses and celebrities use Twitter to interact with consumers, promote products, and advertise with great success. However, what does this mean for education? Does Twitter microblogging have a place in the world of academia? This paper attempts to look at Twitter through the examination of its benefits and challenges for the classroom.
