Moodle 2.5

Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment (Moodle) is a learning management system developed by Martin Dougiamas for blended and fully online learning. The introduction to Moodle 2.5 workshop will take place on a Moodle website called Integrating Technology for Active Lifelong Learning (IT4ALL). The participants will discuss online facilitation and how it differs from the lecture type content-based learning model of teaching, learn about the resources and activities available on Moodle, and collaborate to develop a brief module/lesson/event on the Moodle website. Collaboration is an important element of online learning because students may find it difficult to work on their own with the customary face-to-face contact of the traditional brick-and-mortar classroom. Moodle is the right tool to address this aspect of non-traditional teaching. Moodle follows a constructivist social learning format that allows students to develop lifelong learning skills. Participants are provided with opportunities to become actively engaged in the content and with their peers.

My aim in and out of the classroom (f2f and online) is to find ways to learn about my students so I can develop meaningful socially engaging activities. Is Moodle the right tool for socially engaging activities?
