Abstract: Ever wonder why it’s so hard to do group work online? This session outlines toxic interactions from bad to worst, complete with vivid examples, while participants weigh in on what irritates them the most. Then it offers suggestions for positive virtual behaviors, drawing from blogs, business, academia, and even a professional Civility Ambassador. Finally, participants form their own code of conduct for collaboration by responding to key questions about online civility from ScienceOnline’s virtual writer’s conference. As a bonus, participants can compare their responses to those of senior university students in an American distance learning course.
