Abstract: This presentation shares practices to implement technology-supported orientation and training for over 3,000 staff members joining a newly constructed mega-hospital in Alberta, Canada. Staff were brought on board over a 12 month period requiring strategic planning, information on demand, and blended learning. Mobilizing and orientating a mass amount of people in multi-phased approach required leveraging technology in strategic ways, such as web-based resources, e-modules, blended learning and communication tools. In addition, learning provided to various audience groups needed to be focused and specific, just in time, user friendly, and contain an element of change management. Communications to the various groups also needed to be timely, in different mediums, and provide a venue for feedback. Along with practices and techniques, challenges and accomplishments will be shared on the year-long journey to orientate thousands of new staff members.
