Abstract: Due to the ubiquitous and pervasive nature of modern technologies, information is being transmitted faster and more frequently. As a result the text-based literacies of the past have been superceded by multiliteracies, including digital literacy, information literacy and visual literacy. This paper presents a snapshot of the existing use of moving image media education (MIME) in schools and addresses the challenges and misconceptions associated with MIME as a new literacy.
