Abstract: Despite the potential that synchronous technologies hold for participant interaction and collaboration, limited research has been carried out to examine variables that influence successful synchronous learning. The e-Presence Rich Media Research Laboratory (e-PRMRL) is an unique assembly of existing and new technologies that supports synchronous teaching and learning. This study will investigate the extent to which synchronous interactivity (student-teacher, student-student) as provided in the e-PRMRL supports and provides for teachers’ and students’ a sense of presence? Using a qualitative research methodology it is anticipated that the study will provide recommendations for secondary and post secondary education administrators and stakeholders in regard to the successful integration and use of synchronous on-line learning.
