Abstract: We address an automatic generation issue of English multiple-choice cloze exercises, based on learner’s preference. In our approach, two following research viewpoints are different from the traditional methods with similar objectives: 1) learners can use arbitrary existing sentences as problem sentences for exercises; and 2) learners can generate any exercises to be likely solved in accordance with their own preferences. We implemented our prototype system with respect to this design objective, and evaluated the performance through some experiments.
