Case Study Examination: Evaluation of Distance Education Course in Terms of Universal Design Principles

Abstract: Universal Design Principles (UDP) includes seven principles that facilitate to design for successful learning platform. Experts try to understand how to integrate UDP with blended or online courses. In the research it was aimed to evaluate whether a blended course is conform with UDP or not. Learning management system is used as an online tool to manage online learning process of the course. Seven questions dealing with each principle of UDP were answered by researcher. Case study method was used in this qualitative research. The reason of the usage of case study method is to handle current phenomenon in the context of real life. Interview techniques and control list were used to collect data. Control list contains thirteen items which represent seven categories of UDP. Findings show that the course is conform with some of UDP, but not all of them. At the end of the research, it was some recommendations were made to integrate online learning environment with UDP.
