Abstract: In collaboration with an Adult Literacy Education Centre, design based research was undertaken to develop an intervention intended to maximise benefits derived from incorporating an online environment into their tutors’ professional practice. The existing community of practice, encouraged to develop further in an online environment, became a blended community of online practice (BCoOP). This paper presents the heuristic model which was developed from theory analysis and refined through investigation of the online environment and what that had enabled, the engagement taking place and what that had provided, and the stakeholders and what they had experienced.
