Abstract: Virtual instructor-led training is expanding rapidly in corporate settings. The increased flexibility and expanded reach of virtual training paired with cost savings makes it an attractive choice to deliver content globally. However, the challenge of reaching a global audience goes beyond their geographic distribution and time zone differences. This paper discusses the process followed to design, pilot and implement a virtual learning environment using WebEx in the context of a global, multinational organization. Topics include the integration of the role of the producer, techniques for maintaining learner engagement, strategies for localizing content for language and culture, and techniques for sustaining the global deployment through a network of Learning Centers. We describe the approach for delivering content virtually on a large scale to a diverse audience and discuss issues encountered and lessons learned along the way.
