Abstract: The use of social media platforms and multi-media resources in online higher education course construction are becoming common expectations and features of online courses. I consider how instructors can respond to the needs and demands of the so-called iGeneration by addressing the question: “How can instructors use the social media patterns of their students to leverage learning content and experiences?” Some of the challenges and possibilities are discussed in an attempt to respond to the issue of ‘what they need to know” as social media becomes increasingly integrated into student learning.
