Abstract: This symposium will describe the work-in-progress of the Finnish-US Network (FUN), a collaborative project in which four teams of researchers are studying the relationship between flow and learning in games and gamified learning environments. All teams are using the Experience Sampling Method to measure flow experiences during learner’s interactions in the environment. At the end of their experience, learners are asked to reflect on their level of engagement with the experience as a whole. What makes this work unique is exploring the relationship between flow and learning using a shared research design, measures, and analyses across diverse game and game-like learning environments. While flow measures are the same across contexts, measures of learning outcomes vary from formal assessments to scores on assignments.
