Abstract: As university budgets tighten and student preparedness for university study declines, we see a dramatically increased demand from students for academic writing support. This session describes a very successful program at the University of Newcastle, Australia, using simple technologies to address this demand. eConsult is a student support model addressing the needs of non-traditional students - now an integral part of our university community. This model provides asynchronous access to the Learning Advising service at any time for students studying at a distance, working, and caring for family. eConsult is an innovative program providing access to expert advice and personalized feedback on a specific piece of a student’s writing. eConsult recognises that not all students can access face-to-face services during working hours. Data relating to the success of the program will be presented and a functional model for implementation will be demonstrated.
