Abstract: It is an absolute privilege to conduct research in partnership with Indigenous people. That privilege carries significant responsibility to give and not just take. Good research is designed, from the outset, to ensure that the time and precious knowledge volunteered by Indigenous participants serves to create positive outcomes for their communities. Having worked and lived in Indigenous communities in Canada and Australia for nearly two decades, I have learned a great deal about how to conduct research that generates reciprocal benefits. It requires a clear focus on how research is conducted.
