Trouble in (Online) Paradise: Re-thinking the Need for Learner Feedback
Abstract: This paper addresses the need to re-culture our perceptions of value from student feedback. Traditionally, we tell students that end-of-course evaluations help instructors improve teaching skills and define opportunities for course improvement. We have found that online courses are changing the need to respond to student concerns or questions. At Lincoln University, collaborative work between instructional designers and instructors reacted to students’ expectations for instructor engagement and resolution of any issues including the use of learning tools. Designers need to incorporate continual student feedback in an online course and provide a variety of options for the student experience.
