Share Paper: Intervening online in international exchange programs

Abstract: Recent studies of international exchange programs suggest that interventions may be needed to realize their potential. This presentation centers on a fully-online course that has been developed to deepen the language and intercultural learning of international exchange students. Through guided, critical reflection, ‘Intercultural communication and engagement abroad’ propels the participants towards higher levels of intercultural competence and involvement in the host environment. As well as digesting readings, powerpoint presentations, and YouTube links, the students conduct fieldwork, exchange ideas online, and write reflective essays.
