Critical Power Dynamics in the Life Cycle of Online Tutorials: a Comparative Analysis
Abstract: Educational institutions have turned to online tutorials with increasing frequency as the medium has grown in value and quality. The power dynamics within the tutorial’s lifecycle are explored in a comparative micro setting at a large and small state educational system: the University of South Florida and Hillsborough Community College respectively. The ADDIE process is used to bracket and outline the shifting power dynamics and explain with expert insight as to why these are critical catalysts for other components of tutorial building. The goal of this analysis is to determine through comparative analysis, better current common practices in managing power dynamics within tutorial building within different sized educational institutions and also determining best approaches for each culture in the current era of constant emergent technology.
