Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to describe a problem-based learning environment designed for sixth grade learners, known as Alien Rescue (AR), and to summarize recent research relating to it. The design of the program is based on existing research in the areas of motivation and problem-based learning. We wish to investigate the manner in which a multimedia enriched problem-based learning environment can support learning among a sixth grade student population.
