Abstract: App Smashing involves the process of developing content on multiple digital applications and then smashing them together in order to create an innovative digital product. This brief paper will describe the theoretical framework for utilizing App Smashing projects in educational settings; demonstrate components of an App Smashing project assigned to preservice teachers taking curriculum and instruction courses in a small teacher education program; and, highlight two implementations of App Smashing projects in secondary English classrooms with 11th and 12th grade students. Reflections from each of these scenarios demonstrated that students were overall engaged by the project-based activity and appreciated the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge for standards-based content while increasing and honing their technology skills.
