Abstract: The study probes into the effectiveness of programming instruction by using live-coding videos and to understand how the learning behavior of students on the live-coding programming learning platform designed affects their programming performance. The study intends to apply videos to demonstrate the dynamic and non-linear programming procedure to students for learning the program implementation skills.Student’s performances on programming concepts and implementation skills were examined to explore whether the proposed live-coding-based programming instruction was effective. The results show that students demonstrated significant improvement in program implementation skills while students mostly incorporated with the reflection notes on the video-learning. Students tended to hold more profound think during their reflection process, and helped them to absorb and memorize programming strategies.
