Examining pre-service teachers’ media literacy level with some variables

Abstract: This study aims to examine the relationship between pre-service teachers’ social media use, technology literacy and media literacy level. To this end, the study was carried out with 135 pre-service teachers in 2016-2017 academic year. Relational survey design was adopted and quantitative method was used. In terms of data collection tools, “Media Literacy Level Determination Scale”, “Questionnaire of Personal Information Form” and “Technology Literacy Scale” were employed. According to the results of the data analysis, it was found that there is a significant difference between pre-service teachers’ social media use and media literacy level. It was also found that media literacy level of the pre-service teachers was high while their level of technology literacy is low. Drawing on the findings, some recommendations were made.
