Abstract: A needs assessment process was conducted with alumni on their views of our instructional design graduate program to help determine its overall effectiveness. We asked whether their primary responsibilities in their current jobs were related to instructional design, their satisfaction with the education they received in their degree program and whether their program helped them meet professional competencies. We also asked about their interest in maintaining connectedness with the program. Overall, most were involved in some aspect of instructional design in their jobs, indicated satisfaction about their education and that it helped them meet professional competencies. Some were interested in maintaining a connection with our graduate program. In addition to sharing our results, we will describe our needs assessment process used and caveats, which could be beneficial to other faculty interested in conducting a needs assessment at their institutions.
