Closing Ed <--> Media Gaps in High Education through situated capacity building
Abstract: In April of 2013 the Teaching and Learning Centre at Simon Fraser University launched an educational media, faculty development program. This educational media apprenticeship is about to move across the Atlantic to positively impact Netherlands University faculty. The EdMedia Protégé (EMP) program has created a conversation, and a community, around media as an embedded part of the higher education learner experience. This best practice paper outlines i) how this situated learning environment evolved, ii) how the EMP approach produces meaning on the effective embedded use of media in teaching and learning, iii) shares methods employed to implement the program in Europe, and iv) describes challenges confronted when ‘crossing contexts’ with existing open licensed content.
