Share Paper: BlackBoard Learn Supporting Building Community within a Grant-Funded Project

Abstract: After obtaining a grant award from the Texas Workforce Commission for a year-long workforce development training center, the University of Houston-Downtown’s Scholars Academy program build a digital community including referential information, reflection information, acceleration materials, and assignment submission for all participants to use throughout the year-long project. Because both precollege (high school students) and undergraduates across all science, technology, engineering, mathematics and computer science (STEM-C) disciplines were included in the project the BlackBoard Learn environment acted in a similar manner that a portfolio or community board would.
