Abstract: Contextualized learning provides students with a promising approach to learning, which involves connecting content knowledge with meaningful situations that are relevant to students’ lives. This research examines two undergraduate students’ performance and perspectives on completing contextualized learning tasks in an asynchronous digital literacies course. Data were collected over seven weeks and analyzed by employing a case study comparison using qualitative content analysis methods. Descriptions of these two participants’ performance indicated a discrepancy between the instructor’s expectations, students’ perspectives, and performance. Meaningful interaction with the learning materials and peers appeared to prompt students’ application of knowledge and skills, and may have enhanced students’ engagement. The research findings will be used to drive revisions and refinements of the learning tasks in future implementation.
