Abstract: This paper explores an innovative educational solution in STEAM and design thinking being offered to a group of five charter elementary schools in New York City in the academic year 2021-22. This year is marked with the return of classroom instructions after two years of disruption due to Covid-19 pandemic. The League of Young Inventors (LYI), a Brooklyn-based educational organization is the curriculum provider under study. They designed a new program, called STEM Intensives to engage the entire elementary school community (K – 5) around an engineering theme which could be toys, machines, green technology, and flight.
