Design and implementation strategies to support on-line programs for off-shore teaching

By taking advantage of new on-line technologies many Australian universities now offer distance education programs to attract off-shore students. Rather than travel to Australia to study, these students remain in their own country and study by distance education individually, through a branch campus or through a partnership arrangement with a local institution. On-line technologies play a vital role in supporting off-shore students by providing access to resources and communication with teaching staff and other students. Off-shore modes of education present new challenges for teaching staff and academic coordinators. This paper examines the challenges posed in one such program and the strategies employed to support off-shore delivery.
