Building an Environment for Higher-Order Thinking: CMS as a Method of Encouraging Interactions
Brief Paper
ID: 10714
Abstract: Higher-order thinking skills (H.O.T.S.), according to Bloom, can be described as behaviors involving application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation. This presentation provides an inside view of how a course management system can be used to create learning environments that support higher-order thinking through analysis, synthesis, and evaluation. Participants are guided through an exploration of various methods of encouraging instructor-student and student-content interactions as well as student-student collaborations that result in higher-order thinking skills.
