Enhancing Interactivity, Feedback and Student Accountability in Online Courses

Abstract: The purpose of this faculty learning community was to explore the pedagogical framework of creating a community of learners within the online environment. Specifically, the project sought to enhance student interactivity, feedback and accountability through the use of emerging technologies. The goal was to develop sound, evidence-based practices that enhance teaching and learning in the online medium, and to share those findings with the wider educational community. Using a teacher research model, faculty implemented web 2.0 and other technologies into online course delivery and assessed their impact through collaborative meetings, student surveys, and personal use of these technologies. Findings suggest that use of various technologies can enhance student participation and learning in online course, but that guidelines and structure are required for effective use as assessment tools.
