Ellipsis Resolution with use of Case Analysis for CSCL Discussion Search
Abstract: This paper proposes a method to resolve elliptical phenomena in CSCL discussions with use of case analysis for spoken language. The CSCL discussion has some ellipsis segments in SVO grammar. Therefore, a learner is not able to refer to only single CSCL discussion. On the other hand, for a system, applying natural language processing (NLP) is difficult because of the elliptical phenomenon. In order to resolve the elliptical phenomenon in the CSCL discussion, this paper decides a deep case of segments in the CSCL discussion with use of case frame dictionary. By this approach, relationship between each segment in CSCL context becomes clear. With use of extensive case frame dictionary, the elliptical phenomenon is resolved. As the result, the learner is able to refer to only single CSCL discussion. And it is possible to apply NLP methods such as importance analysis, context analysis or semantic analysis for search system.
