Abstract: Many initiatives are taking place on college campuses today to enhance college teaching and promote learning in the wide variety of settings in which adult learning takes place. Formative assessment for the purpose of improving learning is encouraged in traditional and online settings to improve college teach-ing. This paper examines a variety of electronic peer assessment tools used as formative assessment strategies for increased learning in online courses. The use of a Web-based software product, called Waypoint Peer Assessment, that can leverage the benefits of an online content management system, sim-plify the process of integrating formative assessment, and be applied seamlessly to both formative and summative evaluation in online environments, is described in detail.
