Abstract: This study describes a collaborative project at a public kindergarten classroom in Taiwan where young children’s early literacy was developed through the use of multimedia story writing software. This paper provides examples to show how the creation of electronic storybooks could help young children relate listening vocabularies to sight words through playful exchange of language and connect their literary voices to social relations in the classroom and the family. Practical issues concerning the integration curriculum of computer play and language learning as well as emergent literary scaffolding strategies are discussed.
