Abstract: The paper presents a research in progress work pertaining to virtual learning environment in the Malaysian scenario from the instructor’s perspective. Based on previous literature, several factors were found to influence the effectiveness of VLE. The factors were categorised into organisational, technological and instructional factors. Top management support and faculty training are two major factors identified as the organisational factors. IT infrastructure and implementation of ICT tools are two major factors identified as technological factors whereby and instructors technical abilities and IT competency, pedagogical approaches, quality of instructional design and knowledge sharing among distributed instructor communities are identified as the instructional factors. At the end of the paper, a proposed framework is developed to illustrate the relationships between the independent variables and the dependent variable, namely the VLE success.
