Abstract: Recently, there is an increasing focus on emotion in relation to students learning, which has been generally neglected (Schutz & Lanehart, 2002; Pekrun, Goetz, Titz & Perry; 2002; Dirkx, 2008; Värlander, 2008). An understanding of the nature of emotions in the learning context is crucial, simply because all actions and reason “require appropriate facilitating emotions if successful actions or reason at all are to be achieved” (Barbalet, 2002, p.1). Considering and utilizing emotions in education enables instructors and instructional designers to consciously think about the role of emotion and relay this information to their students.
