Abstract: With the saturation of portable media players and other factors, the market research is revealing a 232% increase in the podcast audience by 2012. This paper reviews current software: open source software, purchased software, and web 2.0 applications that can be used to produce an audio podcast and enhanced podcast. Both audio and enhanced podcasts are currently being used as a supplement to support, enhance and reinforce the content being taught to face-to-face and online students. To maintain quality assurance, performance and accessibility of all podcasts, this paper provides a practical guideline to produce a podcast that conforms to the appropriate file formats for different media selections, and current resources that are needed to create an accessible podcast compliant to Section 508.
